Now a days getting a copy or replacement key for your auto can be very expensive. The last thing you want to do, is go to the dealer. In most cases there can be $200.00 to $400.00 difference in price. And some locksmiths and mechanics like the dealers will rip you off. I have gone to vehicles were locksmiths wanted to charge $400.00 to get a stuck key out of the car a new lock would have cost $60.00 to $90.00 on the vehicle, I got the key out rebuilt the ign lock for $125.00. I have gone to several dealer ships that wanted $500.00 to make a key, when the customer already had a key, it just wasn’t working. So we just copy the key cuts to a transponder and program the car for $75.00 to $100.00. If the price your given seems to good then there could be a problem. They may not know the vehicles has to be programmed or they may try to tack on some hidden fee at the end witch is scamming you. When the door and ign lock are using different keys then the price is going to be higher in most cases. When a lock smith comes to your vehicle they will generally go to the drivers door to start making a key, or they may pull a lock such as door, ign, trunk, glove, to look for a code, and cut a key. They may impression it. If possible but some locks can not be impressioned and do not have a code. So then you would try and decode it. That’s what I will do in most cases’s. For example if they have a ford using a h75 hard key and a transponder for the working key It should take me 15 to 20 minutes at the most if the locks are in good shape to have them back on the road. $125.00 to $150.00 average cost. If it is a regular key that is non transponder. $75.00 to $90.00. If the ign and door is different then it can be much more. The lock may have to be drilled out and replaced and locks can very in price a lot so we would want to know all this information before we came out to the vehicle. A good locksmith is going to ask you all these questions, so there isn’t any surprises. If they don’t ask questions call some one else. They don’t have the experience or don’t know what there doing. There just coming to get money from you. The bottom line is this when I talk to you about the vehicle i want to know everything about it before I come. when did it last run, what was wrong with it, is it your vehicle once I have this information I can give you a Price on making your keys.
